Where and how you can work
Our flagship campus is in Sydney. We also have a campus in Melbourne and co-working spaces in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide. But you have choice in where and how you work. That means if you want to do your thing in the office (if you're near one), at home or a bit of both, it's up to you.
What you’d be doing in this role
As Canva scales change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think that's all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things you'll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve.
About the role
Canva is looking for a new Legal Counsel to be part of our highly motivated, tight-knit, and collaborative global legal team. This role will be part of the Intellectual Property (IP) specialty team and will play a key role in supporting Canva’s marketing team with campaigns, competitions, and events like Canva Create.
This is an exciting opportunity for an IP lawyer looking for their next challenge, supporting Canva to keep our marketing on-brand and legally compliant.
What you'll do
- Review and advise on copy and content for brand marketing campaigns (including television, radio, OOH and social) and events like Canva Create
- Assist with obtaining IP releases and licenses (e.g. location releases, music)
- Draft, review and negotiate agreements for talent engagements and community stories (e.g. influencer agreements, talent releases, testimonial and case study releases)
- Advise on advertiser platform terms
- Draft and review competition terms and conditions
- Review media, asset and trademark releases for our Comms team
- Partner with our Product & Privacy specialty team to review copy for product marketing
- Support with IP training and awareness initiatives
- Advise on other IP issues as required
- Liaise with external counsel (as needed) across IP issues
We'd love it if you have
- Experience advising on intellectual property issues in a marketing context, gained from a private practice firm or in-house
- Tech savviness and experience with (or the ability to learn) tools like Jira, Slack and Google Workspace
- A desire to be proactive, solve problems and make complex things simple
- The ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
- Familiarity with marketing and branding-related laws and regulations (e.g. Australian Consumer Law, Ad Standards, Trade Marks Act and Regulations)
