Where and how you can work
Our flagship campus is in Sydney. We also have a campus in Melbourne and co-working spaces in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide. But you have choice in where and how you work. That means if you want to do your thing in the office (if you're near one), at home or a bit of both, it's up to you.

About the team
Canva is looking for a new Legal Counsel to be part of our highly motivated, tight-knit, and collaborative global legal team. Working in our Intellectual Property specialty team and reporting into our Senior Legal Counsel - Intellectual Property, you will play a key role in protecting Canva's well-loved brand.
This is an exciting opportunity for an IP lawyer looking for their next challenge in trademarks, brand protection and IP enforcement. The Legal Counsel, Intellectual Property (Trademarks and Brand Protection) will be a trusted trademarks and brands advisor to Canva, including our Product, Marketing, Content Design and Community teams. #LI-BV1
What you'd be doing in this role:
- Assisting the Senior Legal Counsel - Intellectual Property with managing Canva's trademark portfolio, including prosecution, maintenance, monitoring, opposition, watches and enforcement
- Engaging and partnering with Product, Content Design, Marketing and other teams to support on trademark and brand-related issues
- Providing advice on new product or feature names, including undertaking clearance searches and risk assessments
- Supporting Canva's IP enforcement efforts by investigating potentially infringing content and drafting cease and desist and takedown notices
- Working with external counsel in relation to trademark prosecution, as well as brand protection vendors to review infringement reports and proactively monitor brand infringements online
- Developing guidelines, support materials and training for the Canva team on appropriate use of trademarks
- Assisting with developing Canva's brand protection strategies
We'd love it if you have:
- Prior experience advising on trademarks including trademark prosecution and brand clearance advice, either at a law firm or in-house
- An understanding of domain enforcement processes and issues
- A desire to be proactive and solve problems, and the ability to balance legal risks with business goals
- Proven communication skills, someone who can translate complex legal concepts into practical solutions
- Had experience leading, or partaking in projects, seeking opportunities for process improvement and / or improving efficiencies
- A background in tech, with experience (or the ability to learn) tools like Jira, Slack and Google Workspace
