About the Role
Roll up your sleeves and climb on board if you’re ready to be our next Engineering Manager. In this role, you would be tasked with platformization of the Mobility Marketplace as a first-class problem, which requires understanding end-to-end use-cases and challenge the status quo at all times by reviewing current engineering techniques and tools and scout for opportunities and fundamental engineering solutions that would bring agility & reliability to enable more business opportunities.
To excel in this role we believe you need the ability to drive strategic technical, delivery and people decisions for the team by collaborating with cross-functional counterparts and stakeholders and also considering inputs from various parties, most importantly from the customers. You are also expected to coach and nurture your team.
What Will You Do
- Be responsible for end-to-end delivery of multi-team projects
- Work with stakeholders to anticipate and address risks such as technical & architectural debt, downtime, data leaks, and execution problems
- Encourage participation in the design review process and is accountable for the system designs in their team
- Work with stakeholders to understand the expectation around non-functional requirements
- Working with stakeholders to ensure technology context is provided during complex feature specification, planning, and prioritization
- Excelling on Agile practices and fine-tunes based on project needs
- Mentor and coached multiple junior and senior engineers
- Participate in recruitment by conducting interviews and helping other Lead Software Engineers or Engineering Managers with staffing plans
What Will You Need
- At least 7 years of relevant industry experience with a minimum 1-year experience in leading a software development team
- Experience managing, mentoring, and supporting a team of direct reports
- Well-versed in Agile methodologies, CI\CD, code reviews, and champions best engineering practices
- Professional experience with Java, Go, Ruby, Python, or other backend-oriented programming languages
- Experience developing end-to-end backend products at scale
- Excellent written & verbal communication skills focused on improving collaboration, understanding & information exchange across all stakeholders
About the team
We are a team of 12 engineers, focusing on Reliability, under Mobility Marketplace group. Split into 3 sub-teams specializing in backend, frontend & some ML. Our prime objectives include platformization, reliability concerns of systems within the marketplace and aim to move towards a composable architecture where new features could be shipped for experimentation by business in a matter of days. We act as a central binding agent for Pricing, Supply and Matchmaking teams and make sure that the overall architecture and infra is flexible, designed for failure, easily extensible and scalable.
We keep pondering about how we could improve availability of the systems by introducing tools to configure and operate clustered solutions? how could we be more agile in on-boarding new use-cases to enable opportunities to Mobility Marketplace business? We bounce around ideas and debate with above themes in mind. Combating remote work has brought us even closer with frequent catch-up for chit-chat over tea and empathy for each other.
The Mobility Marketplace Product Development Team at Gojek handles the hardest quantitative problems related to improving Gojek's real-time marketplace which deeply impacts the everyday experiences of our customers (riders) and drivers.
